So yesterday I accidentally found Bentonite clay at my local dischem and I just bought it on a whimp and couldn’t wait and started searching for mixing recipes online and found that most naturalistas mix it with apple cider vinegar and aloe vera gel and I decided to then add coconut oil.
1. 4 tbsp of bentonite clay
2. 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar
3. 1 spoon of coconut oil
4. 3 spoons of aloe Vera gel
First I mixed the bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar together let it sizzle and bubble a bit in a glass bowl
Next I added the aloe Vera gel and started mixing together using a plastic spoon
Next I added the coconut oil and started mixing it into a paste
Then I proceeded to apply to my hair as I would relaxer (well what I could remember since I hadn’t applied it in over nine years)
I then put on cling film and left it on for 30 minutes (oh I also put the mixture on my face too) loved it.
To say I was happy with the results would be an understatement! Man my hair came out so nice and soft and the had curl definition WHAT!!!
So here’s two pictures so show my before and after
This is after I had put the clay mask on
Look how glossy my hair is and the definition ! I love
I then braided my hair to air dry it. In the morning it wasn’t dried properly so scarf day it was
so today I decided since I had nowhere to go I’ll do my henna treatment during the day and wash it out before I go to bed. The plan is to keep it on for 6-8 hours wash my hair, condition and then thread to stretch it and avoid shrinkage. I’m not at the stage of embracing the shrinkage for now lol.
3 blocks of henna cacca maroon from Lush cosmetics
1 can coconut milk
2 tablespoons of coconut oil.
First step is to melt the henna (I don’t grate it I just put the blocks as is), throw the coconut milk and oil together in a ceramic/glass bowl.
Take a small pot and add boiling water and then out the bowl on top leave it on the heat and it melts on its own
Mix it nicely and then let it cool before I apply it. My hair is not them at long yet so I don’t really section it I just apply as I go. I do this outside to avoid spills .
Don’t forget to use gloves and Vaseline on your skin to avoid the henna staining your forehead, ears, neck etc.
all the stuff I will need to henna my hair and the vaseline
my hair isn’t too long yet so i find 3 blocks to a long way
this is how the mixture looks when its mixed and ready for application
done applying the henna now we wait 6-7 . Minimum one hour
after application on goes the cling film, shower cap and scarve to keep it together
After 7 hours I will then rinse my hair under running water. The rinsing takes a lot of time because the henna becomes grainy and you don’t want specs left in your hair. I then co wash after wards and hopefully I’ll see more red this time 😊
When you finally succeed in flat twisting your hair and go to sleep so excited to check your flat twist out in the morning only for it to flop so horribly and you only have 10 minutes before you have to leave the house.
o Invest in scarves they are life savers
This is the result 😂
So so this week I had my wash day on Friday because tomorrow I’ll be one of 3 adults chaperoning 30 plus children to the park for a braai and will be too tired to do pre pooing and detangling in prep for Sunday wash.
Anyway the aim of the post is to tell you what an amazing thing mixing coconut oil and conditioner is! I mixed it and put it in my hair before detangling. I swear it took me maximum 15 minutes to detangling and I lost a little hair compared to other times when I’ve done finger detangling. The whole wash day process took me just under an hour and I’m super stoked that I didn’t shed so much hair.
I used this combination and left it in my hair for 30minutes before detanglingo
I thread my hair as a way of stretching and drying my hair
The shrinkage is real! I Don’t embrace it!
Left this in my hair for 20 minutes without any heat. Just a shower cap and a doek over it
